Trunk - or - Treat? Trick - or - Treat?

Last week was our monthly Art Council meeting for Lewiston City and I'm happy to announce that Joseph was voted upon and accepted on the Art Council!  We discussed the year's events and everyone gave input on their planning.  We had a visitor from the Library committee who was hoping to get the support from the art council on this years Halloween festival.

While we were talking an interesting argument was brought up:  One women suggested to cancel the trunk or treat activity this year.  The trunk or treat activity is planned and decided on by our town's youth council.  One gentleman suggested that the youth won't agree to cancel the Trunk or Treat.  Then all of the sudden and almost at once the other folks on the art council expressed their frustration with the trunk or treat; some even expressed pure hatred!  One women said, it's important that children get out and walk through their neighborhoods, knock on doors, and actually interact with their neighbors!

I have to say, this is the first time I've heard a mother prefer trick or treating over trunk or treating. She made a good point though, didn't she?  Our children live in a world of touch screens, drive-throughs, and "helicopter" parenting; it seems we're doing a dis-service to our children almost.

What do you think?
